The Santa Maria Arrives at Eastbourne Waterfront
Step aboard one of the most famous ships in maritime history as the Santa Maria visits Eastbourne Waterfront from 19–28 June.
Open daily from 10am–8pm, visitors will have the unique opportunity to explore a full-scale replica of the legendary vessel commanded by Christopher Columbus during his historic 1492 voyage across the Atlantic.
The Santa Maria was the flagship of Columbus’s expedition, which departed Spain in search of a western route to Asia. The voyage became one of the most significant journeys in world history, opening the way for sustained contact between Europe and the Americas and shaping the course of global exploration for centuries to come.
Today, this remarkable replica offers visitors the chance to experience life aboard a 15th-century sailing ship. Explore the decks, admire the craftsmanship of the vessel, and discover the challenges faced by sailors during one of history’s most famous voyages.
